What Happens After You Submit the USRAP Intake Questionnaire?

After a South African applicant submits the USRAP Intake Questionnaire, the next step is not automatic case processing. The U.S. Embassy South Africa FAQ explains that the application is reviewed by a referring organisation, Church World Service or Amerikaners. They may contact the applicant if additional information or clarification is needed.

If the applicant meets the qualifications for referral to USRAP, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration will then evaluate eligibility to access USRAP. This second layer is important. A referring organisation may have a role in reviewing or referring, but the authority to grant access to USRAP rests with the U.S. government.

This means applicants should not confuse contact by a referral organisation with final acceptance. It also means that silence after submission does not necessarily prove a specific outcome. The application may still be under review. Additional information may be needed. The applicant may later be contacted, or the applicant may eventually be notified that the case is not eligible for access.

The FAQ makes clear that not all applicants will be referred to USRAP or deemed eligible for USRAP access. The U.S. government considers many factors, including eligibility criteria and security-check results. Applicants should therefore avoid assuming that submission itself creates a right to proceed.

Once accepted into USRAP, RSC Africa/CWS will notify applicants of the next steps. These may include a pre-screen interview, security vetting, a USCIS interview and a medical examination. These are substantial processing steps. The case is not completed merely because the intake was submitted.

Applicants should maintain and regularly check the email address registered in the UIQ. This is not a small instruction. If the applicant misses email contact, fails to respond, changes phone number or loses access to the email address, processing may be affected. Where access to USRAP has been granted and contact details change, RSC Africa should be notified immediately.

Applicants should also manage expectations around timing. The FAQ states that it may take time before an applicant is contacted after submitting the UIQ. It encourages patience while the referral is being reviewed. Because there is no guaranteed timeline, repeated enquiries or reliance on social media timelines may create unnecessary anxiety.

From a legal-preparation point of view, the period after submission should be used wisely. Applicants should organise their chronology, gather relevant evidence, prepare family details, identify possible inconsistencies and understand what they have already submitted. If the case moves forward, these issues may matter at pre-screen or USCIS interview stage.

Applicants should not use this waiting period to share case numbers, identity documents or sensitive facts in public groups. The FAQ warns against misinformation and scams, particularly where personal information is shared through social media, chat groups, message boards or comment sections.

The correct approach after submission is therefore patient but organised. Check that the UIQ was properly submitted. Watch the registered email address. Keep contact details updated if required. Do not pay for false promises. Do not assume that referral is guaranteed. Prepare the case in case the next step arrives.
